“Holgate Library’s chess group has been gathering on Saturday afternoons for many years. The faces have changed, but the idea that players of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels should get together is still thriving.
The group meets in the public area. This means that the participants are in a library that is busy and frequently has armloads of enthusiastic kids, but club volunteers and participants recognize that developing concentration is an important part of learning.”

East Glisan’s new-ish cocktail bar, Blank Slate, is having a NYE event:

The bar doesn’t really have a web presence, so I called Montavilla Station. The bartender said they’re having a blues party with a band called Jafco, and a champagne toast at midnight. Two years ago, they gave away NYE swag like horns and hats. It’s always a good time at the Station.
Dukes free dance lessons at 8 pm, dinner specials. Email email@example.com to reserve a table.
The O’Neill pub is having an events as well:
“JT Trawick from Well Swung and Rowdy Mountain leads an old fashioned country hoedown with some hot fiddlin, country singin and all kinds of dancin. Hope you can join us for the last party of 2017 (and the first of 2018)!” (FB event)
O’Neill Public House, 6000 NE Glisan St * $5
Is there any awesome East Portland venues or NYE events I’m missing? Let me know!
