It’s awesome to see all the new growth in Lents— as it is also awesome to remember what came before us.
Based on that sentiment, we are finalizing a story about the saga and fate of the New Copper Penny. The story is being written and researched by long-time Lents resident and volunteer Barbara Bader.
Do you have any (good or bad) stories about the New Copper Penny that you’d like to share? Do you have any insight / recollections on its chain of ownership, and if it was ever owned by the Lents Neighborhood Association?

The last Lents Neighborhood Association had another presentation about an important issue for East Portland: vehicle crash trends in and around Lents, and ways to reduce serious crashes.

Founded in 2006 by a community volunteers and then run by Zenger Farm, it is an important sales outlet for immigrant and new farmers, and new small food business owners too.”

There are so many false stories out there about the New Copper Penny sign it will be interesting to see what Ms. Bader comes up with. If you want some truth to your story contact the LNA who did their homework and could not find anything in their minutes that the sign was every donated to them. This is backed up by an article printed in the Willamette Week where Saki’s daughter gave the sign to the “I Love Lents” group. There are also FB posts where she contacted Cora to see if she wanted the sign. I hope you do your do diligence to make sure this article has accurate information in it. These false narratives are starting to remind me of our government.
